Where to go if you have an emergency

The Germans Trias Hospital treats adult and pediatric emergencies 24 hours, 365 days out of the year.

However, medical professionals at the primary care centres (CAP) and local doctors' offices will help you take care of most health issues during regular hours.

Outside regular hours, several primary care centres provide continuous urgent care.To find the neaerest centre, please call 061 CatSalut Respon. You can also visit CatSalut (language: catalan).

At Germans Trias

The Emergency Services take the hospital's entire seafront area, and you can come in from the Can Ruti road, straight ahead after passing the Guttmann Institute. A big sign points to it.

Once you arrive, go to the Admissions desk to explain the reason for your visit. You should bring your:

ID or passport
Targeta Sanitària Individual

Please take a seat in the waiting room until you are called to the triage room, where a nurse will evaluate your condition and give it priority based on how serious it is, not on the order of arrival.

There are five levels of severity:

Levels 4 and 5: patients who can wait without it being a risk to their health, i.e., whose condition is less serious. Almost 100% of these patients are discharged after being treated.In fact, in most cases, they can be treated at the primary care centres.
Level 3: patients who require emergency care but not immediately and who can be treated in the boxes.
Level 1 and 2: patients who need immediate care.

The information screens at the Emergency will show you how many people are waiting at each level and the waiting time.

While you are in the Emergency Room

Explain your condition in detail and indicate whether you are taking any medication or have any allergies.
You may be asked to sign a consent form in case you need diagnostic tests or therapeutic procedures.
The doctor will decide whether you should be admitted to the hospital or stay in the emergency room under observation. If you have to be admitted, the medical team will let you know about your transfer to a ward. If you are released, we will give you a report and any prescriptions you may need.
Only one person may stay with you in the doctor's office or box. Other people should stay in the waiting room.
Minors should always be accompanied by a family member or legal guardian.
If you have an advanced care directives document, and if the situation requires it, you should let us know.
