A hospital classroom is a special educational space that is the result of collaboration between the Education and Health Departments of the Generalitat de Catalunya.

Its main purpose is to give support and foster the continuity of the learning process of children and young people who are in the hospital because of a health problem and cannot attend their regular school to continue their education. Attendance is voluntary.

At the Germans Trias Hospital, the classroom is in the pediatrics ward, on the 7th. floor of the Mother and Child building. It has its own physical space available, but students are also assisted in their rooms when necessary.

 

The three objectives of the hospital classroom

 

• Ensuring the students' learning continuity according with their teachers at their original schools and fostering online communication with their classmates.
• Helping them understand the disease and the hospital environment by fostering communication and creating an atmosphere of trust and cooperation.
• Providing emotional support to the student and the family from the role of the school.

Discharge from the hospital

When the students are discharged from the hospital and cannot attend school for a period of over 30 days, they can continue their learning by means of home schooling assistance.
