Presentation:
The goal of the Germans Trias Interventional Neuroradiology Department is to provide good quality endovascular diagnosis and treatment to the population of Barcelonès Nord and Maresme districts. As it forms part of the Neurosciences Area, it also provides a portfolio of highly complex tertiary services to this geographic area and to districts of Girona. It always aims to provide excellence and well-being to patients.
The department provides ongoing treatment of patients needing urgent endovascular treatment. This includes mechanical thrombectomy (by inserting a catheter to extract clots) in ischemic strokes, or embolization of cerebral arterial aneurysms causing subarachnoid haemorrhage. Elective treatment procedures are also carried out, such as angioplasty, the treatment of arteriovenous malformations and vertebroplasties. The department has a state-of-the-art biplane angiograph system and its own operating theatre to perform ´procedures. It is also in charge of patient control in the Neurosciences hospitalization unit and of outpatient follow-up.
