María Iglesias Escudero

Specialist Faculty of the Immunology Service of the Germans Trias Hospital.

Trained as a specialist in Immunology (2016) at the Central University Hospital of Asturias (HUCA). During his BIR period, he delved into some areas such as the Hematological Cytometry area and the Histocompatibility and Transplant Area. He combined daily clinical practice with collaboration in research projects based on the study of lymphocytic subpopulations associated with immunosenescence phenomena in chronic pathologies, such as autoimmune diseases and coronary disease.

In 2016 he was awarded a contract as a predoctoral student in the “Trasplanting and Autoimmunity” group, at the Institut de Recerca Marquès de Valdecilla, IDIVAL, Santander. In 2021 she defended her doctoral thesis (University of Cantabria) entitled “Myeloid-derived suppressor cells in kidney and lung transplant receptors”.

Since October 2020, she has been a specialist in the HUGTP Immunology Service responsible for the systemic autoimmunity section, and since 2021 she has been the Service Quality Coordinator.

Her research focuses on the study of the immune response in transplantation, monitoring and search for biomarkers, as well as the study of immunoregulation and tolerance mechanisms in the context of kidney transplantation.
