Bachelor in Medicine and Surgery, Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona (UAB) and Intensive Care Medicine specialist. Doctor in Medicine and Surgery with the thesis Hydration status and respiratory repercussions in the critical patient (Estado de hidratación y repercusiones respiratorias en el enfermo crítico). Vicepresident and later president of the Catalan Society of Intensive and Critical Medicine between 2004 and 2008. Service referent physician in severe infection, sepsis and septic shock.

Associate lecturer in the UAB School of Medicine at the Can Ruti Campus, where he teaches the sixth year Urgent and Emergency Care course. Member of the expert committee of the Clinical Medicine journal (Medicina Clínica).

Principal investigator in a dozen multicentric clinical trials between 1998 and 2010. Editor and author of several book chapters and medical monographs. Member of the Catalan Society of Intensive and Critical Medicine and Coronary Units.
