Presentation:

The Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Service at Germans Trias i Pujol University Hospital provides highly specialised care as a tertiary referral centre for the Northern Metropolitan Area (North Barcelona and Maresme), and as a supra-territorial referral centre for Girona in high-complexity procedures.

The service's activity focuses on the diagnosis, treatment and comprehensive follow-up of conditions affecting the oral cavity, face and neck, in both adult and paediatric patients. The scope of its clinical practice ranges from oral surgery and odontogenic conditions to high-complexity procedures, such as microvascular reconstructive surgery, orocervicofacial oncological surgery, facial trauma, orthognathic surgery, the treatment of facial paralysis, craniofacial congenital malformations and temporomandibular joint pathology.

The service works in a multidisciplinary and coordinated manner with other hospital specialities—such as Radiodiagnostics, Medical Oncology, Radiotherapy Oncology, Otorhinolaryngology, Pulmonology and the Infectious Diseases Unit—to provide a comprehensive and personalised approach. This collaboration is particularly relevant in complex pathologies such as oral cavity cancer, osteonecrosis of the jaws and obstructive sleep apnoea, where the integration of knowledge and resources is key to optimising patients' diagnosis, treatment and prognosis and their quality of life.
